Frequently asked questions

Is MedCode Pro really free?

Yes. The free tier includes 100 code lookups per day, a full coding workspace, NCCI/MUE validation, NPI lookups, and ClaimGuard. All powered by free U.S. Government data sources. No credit card, no trial period, no bait-and-switch.

Does my IT department need to approve this?

MedCode Pro never accesses patient data, EHR screens, or web page content. It cannot read your clipboard or browsing history. Since it collects zero PHI, there is no HIPAA risk and no BAA is required. Share our privacy policy with your compliance team for review.

What data sources does it use?

Exclusively official U.S. Government APIs: NLM Clinical Tables (NIH), CMS Physician Fee Schedule, NPPES NPI Registry (CMS), and RxNorm (NIH/NLM). All publicly funded, always current, always free. No third-party data vendors.

When will paid tiers be available?

We're focused on making the free tier excellent first. Paid tiers with unlimited lookups, batch validation, AI-powered suggestions, and team features are on the roadmap. Follow us for updates.

Does it work with my EHR?

MedCode Pro runs in Chrome's side panel alongside any web-based application. It works alongside Epic, Cerner, athenahealth, AdvancedMD, or any browser-based EHR, PM system, or clearinghouse — without reading or modifying any of their data.

Can I audit what the extension does?

Absolutely. MedCode Pro is fully open source. You can review every line of code, inspect every network request it makes, and verify its behavior independently. We believe transparency is the best security policy.

Disclaimer & Limitation of Liability

Not medical advice. MedCode Pro is a reference and productivity tool for qualified healthcare coding professionals. It does not provide medical advice, clinical decision support, or treatment recommendations. All coding decisions should be made by certified professionals using their professional judgment.

Data accuracy. While MedCode Pro sources data from official U.S. Government APIs, we do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any data presented. Government data sources may contain errors or lag behind regulatory updates. Always verify codes against the most current official publications (AMA CPT, WHO ICD-10, CMS HCPCS).

Limitation of liability. MedCode Pro and its creators are not liable for any claim denials, reimbursement issues, audit findings, penalties, or other financial or legal consequences arising from the use of this tool. Use of MedCode Pro is at your own risk. The software is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied.

No HIPAA obligations. Because MedCode Pro operates under a Zero-PHI architecture and never accesses, stores, or transmits Protected Health Information, it does not act as a Business Associate under HIPAA. No BAA is required or offered.
